For the last five years the heroes, and some villains, of the Marvel universe had been waging a war in space. The war was with the Skrull, for once they decided to take a proactive stance and attacked the Skrull home world. Some vanished and it is not known whether they survived or died, all had exhausted themselves beyond measure. However, they kept fighting, even as if it would seem that they'd lose. They never gave up and in the end they triumphed. It was now time to return home. If they only knew....
For the last five years the people of the DC universe were fighting against a race of aliens they knew nothing of. It seemed the Skrull race had been able to invade due to rips in the fabric of the universes. They had decided to try to take over this world as well. Or maybe it was just a back up plan in case they lost the battle in the other world. Either way, the heroes met them head on and engaged in a five year long war.
For five years two The Presence [DC] and The One Above All [Marvel] fought for control of the other's universe. Both wanted to add the other to their collection, so to speak. Both were unknown to the people of their respective universes. The battle spanned both space and time until one day it came to a head. The two powerful beings clashed one last time. Even they did not realize the powers that they held, for each one was the 'core' of their universe. When the two beings merged into one, so did their universes. The world shifted over night and in such a way that many died in the impact, and the face of the world was changed forever. Time stopped, the worlds became one, and what happened next was chaos.
Upon each groups return they found the worlds had literally crashed on top of one another. The death toll was high, especially with the civilians. Cities literally fell on top of each other, not many buildings were recognizable, save for key features. However, some were left in tact and just looked a little worse for wear. New villains emerged as did new heroes. But then each side was new and no one could distinguish between the good and bad, not at first.
Now it's up to us to sort out the good from the bad. Will alliances be made? Loyalties change? Or will we continue to fight each other out of fear and confusion? Will someone actually step up and figure it all out, or will we be reduced to paranoid savages who kill anything we don't understand? Or will we work together and try to put the world back together as best as possible? These are the most important questions the heroes of the world will have to face, we hope they are up to the challenge. We're depending on them.
