JONATHANLOWELL SPENCERSTORM
Name: Jonathan Lowell Spencer Storm
Nickname(s): Johnny, Torch, Human Torch, Matchstick Johnny
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Birthday: June 22
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Job: ex NASA pilot and racecar driver
Powers:The Human Torch possesses the mental ability to control ambient heat energy and the physical ability to envelop his entire body or portionsof his body with fiery plasma without harm to himself. (Plasma is a super-heated stated of matter such as exists in the atmosphere of stars.)
Ordinarily, when aflame, the Human Torch is enveloped by a low intensity flame of low level plasma (reddish, approximately 780 Fahrenheit), which ranges from 1 to 5 inches from his body. He can, however, generate much higher levels and flames about himself. The Torch refers to his highest, hottest levels of plasma that he can create as his "nova flame." The exact temperatures that his "nova flame" can attain are not known.
At an average rate of expenditure of energy, the Torch can stay aflame for about 16.8 hours. In his younger days, he could only maintain his flame for much briefer periods, and sometimes exhausted it while in combat. He cannot maintain his "nova flame" for as long a time as he can maintain his ordinary flame. The Torch can release all of his body's stored energy in one intense, omni-directional "nova-burst," which can reach about 1,000,000 F, and which is similar to the heat-pulse of a nuclear warhead detonation, with an are of total devastation of about 900 feet in diameter. (The Torch has claimed that he can destroy a small moon with his nova-burst.) This violent discharge uses his entire reserve of energy (except for the necessary to keep him alive) at once, entirely exhausting his flame power. He generally requires at least 12 hours to recover entirely from such a feat.
The Human Torch can generate shapes composed of fire from any point on his body. (He usually employs his hands to "sculpt" the flames.) He can form fire into long streams, spheres, or even more complex shapes like letters in skywriting. These flames-objects will only remain their shapes as long as he concentrates upon them. The objects will only burn about 3 minutes before expiring unless the Torch continues to infuse them with energy. The temperature of these fiery projections is generally around 2,800 F (near the melting point of iron).
The Human Torch's plasma has a high hydrogen content, and is surrounded by an exuded cloud of mono-atomic hydrogen atoms. This hot cloud provides sufficient positive buoyancy for him to float. With mental stimulation of his flame, he can provide enough lift to carry 180 pounds. By forming a jet from his feet, directed behind him, he can achieve speeds up to at least 140 miles per hour.
The Human Torch has the ability to mentally control the ambient heat energy within his immediate environment, even when he himself is not aflame. He can reduce objects' temperatures (if they are in a normal range for existing on Earth's surface) to about 30 F, raise them to several hundred degrees, or extinguish open flames. His radius of influence is about 80 feet. The heat energy he takes from the environment is absorbed into his own body. If he takes in a critical amount while he is not aflame, he will become aflame. There are unknown limits to the amount of flame he can absorb into his own body harmlessly while he is himself aflame.
The Human Torch's flame is supported by the presence of oxygen, and thus is extinguished in low air pressure or a vacuum. The Torch's flame can be extinguished by smothering materials, such as water, sand, fire-fighting foam, and heat-resistant blankets, unless his flame is at such an intensity that it immediately vaporizes such materials on contact. If hit with small amounts of water, up to about five gallons, the Torch can turn it to steam with relatively little effort. More water than that could extinguish his flame at its normal level, and he would have to wait until he could evaporate the residual moisture before re-ignition.
The Torch's light output is mostly in the infrared and infrared region of the spectrum, and is invisible to the unaided eye. Less that 10% of his total power output is in the visible portion of the spectrum. Thus, the Torch, when aflame, is dimmer than one would expect of so powerful an energy source.
The Human Torch is unaffected by heat and flames, including his own, even when part of him is aflame and the rest of him is not. His flesh cannot be scalded or burned by any heat source whose level is below that of his maximum output.

The obvious "cool factor" of his powers only serves to heighten these personality traits.Johnny Storm was picture perfect, arrogant and always stumbling into trouble. He's relatively laid back, likes drinking and women, even if he's terrified of commitment in the case of the latter, and is a usually the class clown in most situations. He cracks jokes and enjoys playing pranks.
If and when the jokes stop working, though, he has a tendency to fall back on his temper. The length of his fuse seems to vary from situation to situation, but when he does go off, he's not above punching someone who's pissed him off, or at least threatening to. Or, barring that, he's not afraid to tell you exactly where to shove it, regardless of whether or not it'll get him into trouble, which it has on several occasions, but it hasn't seemed to stop him yet.
He's a playboy, one for whom casual flings were part and parcel to the package, who felt little and had even less disregard for anyone beyond his immediate circle, and outwardly, that would be true. The image of a sarcastic rough-and-tumble, love-'em-and-leave-'em type that rode into town, broke a few hearts, and fled was one he crafted easily, playing to it and enjoying it, most days.

History:Growing up in suburban Glenville, New York, Jonathan Storm suffered in his young life. He lost his mother in a car accident where as his father, Franklin Storm, a talented surgeon, managed to escape from the accident unharmed. Despite his professional skills, he was unable to save his wife's life and spiraled into alcoholism and financial ruin. After killing a loan shark in self defense, Franklin was sent to jail and Johnny was primarily raised by his sister, despite their closeness in age.
Despite the dramatic manner of his mother's death, Johnny was drawn to automobiles and became quite the mechanic at a young age. While still a teenager, he selflessly rescued two of his friends from a burning building. No stranger to adventure, he was nearly chosen as the human host of the demonic Zarathos, the Ghost Rider. He was attacked by the legendary St. Germaine, who sought the power for himself. Johnny escaped the lure of Zarathos with the help of archaeologist Max Parrish, the uncle of Cammy Brandeis, who Johnny had a bit of a crush on. This was an example of his normal life, until the life altering rocket ride into space.
Johnny Storm, as stated above, is what you might call "hot tempered." He has plenty of background to justify that temperament. His mother died in a car accident while Johnny was a child and his father fell into alcoholism. Franklin Storm, his father, was eventually killed by thugs. The young man was raised primarily by his older sister, Sue Storm. They were close in age, but miles apart in personality. While Johnny was impulsive, Sue was careful and compassionate.
They were normal human beings, until they joined Sue's boyfriend, Reed Richards and his friend, Ben Grimm, on a test flight into outer space. While in space, the craft was hit by cosmic radiation. After they returned to earth, each of the flight members found that they had new abilities. Johnny's gift was the ability to fly, burst into flame and control fires that were burning around him. The four astronauts called themselves the Fantastic Four.
They became world known adventurers and tried to use their abilities to help mankind. They became the enemies of many people, most notably Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom.
Role Play Sample: When Becky turned around, Chuck smiled. Everything was always so new with her. New experiences, new feelings, and in a way, a whole new version of him. He had never been the most popular person or even a very socially accepted person. Ah, the life of a social outcast. Even the girl who had taken his virginity twenty-three years ago had tried to say it didn't count because the experience had been with him. Now though, he had someone he cared for who seemed to care for him as well. He didn't know if it was because of the books, because of what he was or because she truly did like him, but he didn't care. Some things were better left unsaid.
"Yeah, I liked it. It looks amazing. I can't believe you managed to do all that. For a minute there I wondered if it was my house. You didn't have to do all that, you know. I could have helped you." He was still in disbelief that someone would go that far out of their way for him. The house wasn't the filthiest place he'd ever seen, but it would have been a hard job for any one person to tackle alone. When she mentioned his work place he grinned. There was a method to his madness and his disorganization was organized. Not in neat little piles like normal people, but he knew where everything was. "That was..that was great. I've got some stuff there I wanna show you, but not 'til it's finished." It was great having a person who was that enthusiastic to bounce ideas off of. She was a bigger fan of his work than he was and she could easily recall information from prior books that he'd long forgotten. He loved that about her.
"Oh Becky, you didn't have to do all this. It's.. It's awesome that you did it, but I don't want you working yourself that hard because of me." He looked at the pile of leaves with admiration and suppressed the urge to jump in them. Yeah, even in his late 30's he had momentary child-like impulses. "Not really, I burn water.." That wasn't entirely true. If it came in a box or a can, he could manage to make it edible, even if half the time the noodles tasted like glue from over-cooking. "No, I came straight out here looking for you. I'm sure it's fine. Don't worry about the toast, sometimes it's good that way."
As soon as Becky mentioned how cold it was outside, he began to take note of just how cold it really was. He couldn't feel some things and others were chilly to the point of almost being painful. He willingly followed her inside when she tugged his hand. There was really no point in protesting, especially when she was right.
Once inside, he quickly shut the door to keep the cold air out. He smiled at her concern and felt the warmth of the house start to take the chill away. He raised a brow at the mention of eating and from the way his stomach responded he was definitely ready to try out her cooking. "Um.. yeah, I could eat."
His mind raced back to that conversation at the mention of Christmas lights. He had almost forgotten about that. There was no way he could say no to her. He liked seeing her happy and denying her that would have been a slap in the face considering all the work she had done there. "Sure Becky, we can get them right after breakfast. That should give us enough time to put them up before it gets dark."
